Equine-Assisted Trauma Recovery
Healing Through Connection with Horses
About
The Generous Horse Project is a Texas-based nonprofit dedicated to trauma-informed, relationship-centered healing through equine-assisted psychotherapy, nature-based experiences, and community education.
Founded in 2022, we support individuals, families, and communities as they navigate trauma, grief, and emotional overwhelm. Our team of licensed professionals and trained volunteers believes that healing happens through connection to self, others, animals, and the natural world.

What We Do
.Our work integrates evidence-based approaches, nervous system awareness, and the unique presence of horses to support emotional resilience, regulation, and repair.

Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy

In partnership with our herd, licensed clinicians provide trauma-informed therapy for individuals, families, and groups. We specialize in supporting those navigating:

-
Trauma & PTSD
-
Grief and loss
-
Emotional overwhelm or dysregulation
-
Relationship difficulties
-
Stress, burnout, and life transitions

Horses serve as honest, nonverbal partners in the therapeutic process. Their ability to mirror human emotions and respond to nervous system cues creates opportunities for deep insight and healing.

Sessions take place outdoors, allowing for movement, grounding, and sensory engagement—all powerful tools for regulating and integrating emotions. Whether someone is reconnecting with their body, exploring relational dynamics, or learning to feel safe again, the horse is a steady, responsive presence.

We are proud to offer:

Experiential, Somatic & Relational Therapy
Therapeutic sessions for individuals, families, and groups using body-based, attachment-focused approaches.

Equine-Assisted Healing
Horses act as co-regulators, offering honest, nonverbal feedback that supports nervous system regulation and emotional insight.

Healing for Horses
Many of our horses are survivors, too. We care for them with the same trauma-informed principles we teach: safety, trust, and connection.

Volunteer & Community Education
We train volunteers and community members in trauma awareness, nervous system literacy, and how to show up with empathy for both people and animals.

School & Family Outreach
We partner with educators, caregivers, and clinicians to bring regulation tools and attachment-based understanding into schools and homes.
Workshops & Trainings
Our team leads immersive trainings that explore trauma, regulation, and healing through nature, relationship, and somatic practice.

Environmental Stewardship
Permaculture principles support our land-based healing model. We care for the land as part of the ecosystem of healing.
