Our Philosophy and Partnership With Horses
At The Generous Horse Project, our horses live as a cohesive herd, embodying a real-life model of relationship and healing. Their natural instincts for safety, connection, and co-regulation mirror the relational principles that underpin our equine-assisted psychotherapy practices, offering clients an experiential understanding of healthy attachment and emotional balance.
Our philosophy centers on letting the horses live as naturally as possible, honoring their instincts and wisdom. Rather than imposing our own ideas, we focus on truly listening to them, allowing them choice and agency in their daily lives. This approach mirrors the trauma-informed care principles we apply in our equine-assisted psychotherapy work—both horses and humans are supported in their healing journey at their own pace.

Like the humans they help, each of our horses has a unique history. Some have endured trauma and are on their own path of recovery. By fostering a space where horses can bond, explore, and heal, we provide a model of healthy attachment and emotional balance. Their natural instincts for co-regulation offer real-time feedback, helping clients better understand their internal emotional processes and experience the power of non-verbal connection.

In this shared recovery process, horses and humans walk the healing path together. Through compassionate interactions and deep respect for the horses’ autonomy, we nurture relationships that support both their well-being and the well-being of the people they help. While our horses no longer roam with the wild freedom of their ancestors, we are dedicated to giving them a life that closely mirrors their natural instincts—ensuring their safety, fostering their bonds, and promoting their ability to live as a true herd.

Together, we cultivate trust, safety, and connection, allowing both horses and humans to experience profound growth and healing in this shared journey.
